Construction reaches highest point

On May 25th, 2005, Minister L. J. Brinkhorst gave the official start signal for building FiftyTwoDegrees. FiftyTwoDegrees is a major project that will contribute to the regional, national and international knowledge economy. The ambitious knowledge centre will create an environment where technology (linked to the semiconductor, multimedia and ICT industry), business and lifestyle come together. In this context, new networks and alliances will be created, providing room for dialogue between producers and consumers, and resulting in innovative ideas and products. As well, the centre will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and creativity between product developers, knowledge institutes and entrepreneurs in an open platform.
FiftyTwoDegrees is located next to Philips’ largest European production and development site for semiconductors, near the Radboud University, St Radboud Medical Centre and Canisius-Wilhelmina hospital. Philips Semiconductors Nijmegen is the main renter of the office tower. As of mid-November, international acquisition for other renters began in Phase 1a. CB Richard Ellis Group, Verbeek Makelaars Nijmegen, East Netherlands Development Agency NV and the NFIA (Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency) are working towards this goal.
ICE Development and Ballast Nedam Construction will be handling the development and construction of FiftyTwoDegrees. The architect is Francine Houben of Mecanoo architects in Delft. The office tower and related buildings to be developed will be fitted with state-of-the-art technology. Phase 1a of the project will be completed at the beginning of 2007. The completion of Phase 1b is planned for 2010.
